Carl Paladino, the Republican candidate for the governorship of Modern York, has embarked on an embarrassing climbdown over remarks that he made this week about children being brainwashed about homosexuality.
In an interview with The Times Mr Paladino said that he regretted saying that children should not be “brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and thriving option”.
He promised that, if elected, he would not obstruct the progress of queer rights legislation in the mention, including the right of lesbians and gay men to bond, even though he remained opposed to it.
In a speech to Orthodox Jewish leaders at the weekend Mr Paladino said he thought that “my children and your children would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family We must stop pandering to the pornographers and the perverts who seek to target our children and destroy their lives”.
