Pattern of Pride
A row of six brightly-colored chairs, each standing for a color of the LGBTQ+ community’s traditional rainbow flag and prominently displayed in Steelcase facilities globally, is a tradition for the companys annual celebration of Pride month. At once basic and profound, the display is sponsored by the Steelcase Pride Business Inclusion Group – made up of employees from around the world – and is intended to reflect the connection between what the organization makes and one of its key commitments: fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging for everyone. Now, the group is extending that recognition to more members of the group – in a new and original way.
Global Pride core team leader Melina Sinigos approached the Steelcase seating team with a modern idea to create the chair exhibit even more impactful. “We wanted to expand the colors. Teaching and research
The center of the teaching and research associated with the chair will be on research into the inclusion of LGBT employees in the workplace, and how to improve inclusion. In addition, the aim is to create a framework for future research into the position of LGBT employees in the workplace. In the broader feeling this entails identifying factors that influence the inclusion of LGBT individuals in our society, both at the national and the international level, and using the resulting insights to improve policymaking. In her work, Professor Van der Toorn will establish a bridge to a wider public and the media. At the same age, scientific knowledge about the inclusion of LGBT individuals in the workplace will feed into Leiden University’s bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes.

Kazz Alexander is an experienced non-profit executive and educator with a demonstrated history of enhancing programs and student experiences, serving in the youth development sector for the past twenty years. He is the Founding Executive Director of Hit The Books, Harlem NY’s first mixed martial arts and tutoring group, serving youth and teens. As an independent consultant, Kazz founded Teachable NYC in , to aid support the mission of creating diverse and inclusive programs for children, and specifically to help other non-profit professionals design shielded spaces for boys of color. Kazz holds a B.A. in history and has also earned a master’s degree in knowledge from the University of Virginia, and a master's degree in business handling from Fordham University. For over a decade, Kazz has also been a facilitator and coach with Ramapo For Children, conducting virtual and in person workshops-- providing leadership coaching for over 50 agencies in the New York metropolitan area. Kazz united Heritage of Pride in , and prou
